Sometimes we get caught up and read the Bible like a textbook. The words become just stories that happened in the past, instead of being the powerful, life-giving words that they are. The Bible becomes something we read only to spit out verses like facts in a school presentation. The problem is we never actually interact with the Word of God or encounter God’s presence when we read the Bible like that.
Thankfully The Bible isn’t a textbook, it is not a “How To” guide. It’s the story of Jesus. It is the character of God. We read it to know the Father, not to pick out verses that apply to our current circumstance. The Bible is a way to know God, to hear God, and in turn your life is radically changed not because of a verse or a chapter, but because you have a relationship with the one who breathed those words. Because you know the heart behind the words. Because you know that the words will never return void, that every promise made has been and will be fulfilled.
It’s one of those things where you trust the words because you trust the one who spoke them. And trust comes from knowing, from familiarity, from having several encounters and conversations, from RELATIONSHIP.
If we are going to be a generation that starts a revival, that encourages people to run into the arms of the Father, we first have to seek the Lord in His Word. We have to let that Word sink in and be written on the tablets of our heart. We have to encounter Jesus in our own personal lives. Because having the Holy Spirit speak through you, using the Word of God you have hidden in your heart is a lot different than simply quoting a verse you read in passing.
Sit with the Lord, sit in His presence and let Him meet you where you are through His word. Remind yourself of who He is and align your steps to match those of the Spirit. He wants to reveal Himself to us. He has no reason to hide or hold back, but we must have a heart that craves His word and desires to meet with Him each day.
Hebrews 4:12 - “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 - “All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
